David Cowan was born in Chicago in 1963, and is a former award-winning newspaper reporter and firefighter. He is an independent journalist and co-author (with John Kuenster) of the critically acclaimed book about the Our Lady of the Angels school fire, To Sleep With the Angels (pub. Ivan R. Dee, Inc). Mr. Cowan’s work has also appeared in major newspapers and magazines, and he has been a featured guest on numerous television documentaries about historic fires. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he holds degrees in journalism and political science from Southern Illinois University.
